Veterinary Technology (Associates of Applied Science Degree Program)

Instructors: Dawn DeMoss, RVT, Jeffery Patton, DVM , Carey Cornett, DVM, Monica Patton, DVM and Heather RVT

Prerequisites: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Completion of a chemistry course (either high school or college) with a "C" or better, personal interview, and admission to Bridgemont CTC(after enrollment). ACT Composite Score of 20. Clinical experiences are arranged and you must have your own transportation. Application Deadline Febuary 28th.

Weekly Schedule:  Classes are set prior to the beginning of the start date.

The Program is accreditated by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technicians National Exam and the WV State Exam. Upon successfully passing both exams graduates will earn their license and become Registered veterinary technicians within WV.

What will I learn?

This is a 2 year joint program with Bridgemont Community & Technical College. Students in the program receive training in all of the aspects necessary to become competent Veterinary Technicians.. The students will become knowledgeable in areas of both large and small animal care and handling, client communication, hospital management, parasitology, nutrition, behavior, surgical nursing, anesthesia, radiology, dentistry, pharmacology, laboratory procedures and diseases. The students will also gain clinical experience in local veterinary hospitals. The graduate will have received the knowledge and skills necessary to be qualified for employment in such areas as clinical medicine, laboratory animal medicine, emergency medicine, biological research, food inspection, zoological medicine, academic instruction, pharmaceutical sales and government regulatory agencies. Upon successful completion of the program you will be a well rounded veterinary technician.
